Good list. Like Sean, I confess as an American I'm not really that immersed in English football to the point where I'd recognize some on this list, though of course the World Cup images of Moore, Maradona and Pele are familiar. I'll always remember Jim Valvano, running the floor after his team won the NCAA basketball championship, just looking for someone to celebrate with. Jubilant, and poignant, considering how soon afterward he was cut down by cancer. That may be iconic only in the US, but every American sports fan knows the image I'm talking about.

You should mention that Florence G Joyner has been suspected to be one of the most doped athlete in the history of sport. It is always painful to see her associated to other great athletes.

Not having the pic of Jordan flying thru the air for a slam dunk destroys the credibility of this list.

Bobby Orr flying through the air? Willie Mays catching a deep fly ball over his shoulder? To be honest, I've never even seen some of the soccer pictures, but I will agree Ali over Liston is definitely number one.

What about the Summit Series where Paul Henderson scored the winning goal? That has to be the most iconic sporting image in Canada.
